Slowing Down

When I realized that I was signed up for Digital Literacy, I was terrified. As I have mentioned before, I am scared of working with technology because I do not feel as though I know anything about it! It takes a lot for me to have to figure out techniques that most people know already, which made me really nervous to take this course. As far as my expectations for this class, I thought that we would be creating a website, so I was really relieved to learn that we get the chance to blog and tweet! I have really enjoyed being able to blog because it is a nontraditional way to express my thoughts. We have all written a massive amount of research papers, so I think that being able to write in a different format makes me feel like I am able to express myself in a more creative way without sounding too stiff and robotic. We are able to learn things through the modules that we haven’t touched on in other classes, and that is what I love the most about this class.

Each module that we have completed has proven to be interesting and educational. My favorite one so far was the one about hacking education. I have never heard of hacking, so I did not know what to expect, but I was so happy to read about different methods of learning that can make education individualized and exciting for every student. The module that gave me the most trouble was the one that required us to find create a personal learning network. I had to do a lot of research about personal learning networks in order to discover what they were and what they are used for. Every module that I have worked with, whether it has been difficult or easy, has been extremely interesting to me, so I have really enjoyed each module that we have gone through as a class.

Throughout the rest of this semester, I am excited to learn more about using technology to help me become the best educator that I can be. I hope to find good resources for teachers and ideas that will help equip me with the tools I need to run my classroom. I am also hoping that I get to learn more about manipulating technology because it is such a huge part of our world, and the more that I know about it, the more that I can use it to my advantage in education.

I have really enjoyed this course so far, and I am excited to continue learning about literacy in the digital age!

Thank you for reading,

Kayla, It is awesome to see you are enjoying your diglit class!! I feel you when you say that it is way more fun to blog and tweet instead of writing research paper after research paper! I’m excited to keep following your journey through this class!:)
